THE GOOD CITY

ADAM, 32, is a teacher who works with at-risk youth in a small town, in the same class where he studied as a teenager himself. He is a man who lives with a great secret—he objects to his own sexual orientation and hides his attraction to men from everyone around him. He is undergoing conversion therapy with rabbis while living with a terrible sense of loneliness, sharing his apartment in Tel Aviv with short-term renters, tourists who come and go. Adam, who will do anything for his students, develops a codependent relationship with TOMER, a student who is constantly getting himself in trouble. Tomer, after being expelled from the school, is furious at the system, breaks into the city welfare offices and sets the place on fire. Adam, who is battling against Tomer’s downward spiral, becomes his confidant.
Adam’s life changes when the corrupt MAYOR decides to scatter the students in his class right before the elections. While Adam fights his sexual identity, he channels his frustration into a battle waged against the Mayor. The battle turns into an all-out war when Adam decides to save not only the students but the entire city, whose residents considers him a social hero. Adam decides to run against the Mayor, and finds himself in a fraught political campaign along with his students, who participate as deranged campaign staffers. Keeping his sexual orientation a secret pushes him into playing dirty politics. Adam dreams of giving the city the hope he cannot envision for himself.
